Next Year's Writing Goals

My goals for next year are to continue to grow and succeed as a writer. First, I would like to improve on my time management and planning skills when writing english papers. I have struggled this year with putting off assignments till the very last minute. Next year, I would like to space out my process of writing papers because it would improve my organization and word choice, as a described in my last blog. Achieving this goal so early in my high school career will help my succeed for the rest of my life.
Another goal I would like to set it to use different techniques of writing thought the year. I would like to experiment with new ways of writing that I have never done before. This will help broaden my perspective for writing and therefore reading too. These two goals will both benefit me in the long run.

Still Need work on

I still need to work on many parts of my writing. Specifically, I would like to improve my organization and grammar. I feel like I struggled this year with both of these traits of writing and would like to continue to develop and add to these traits. I will achieve both of these goals by doing grammar practices seriously and outlining my papers to the maximum before I start typing it.

I would also like to improve and spend more time preparing for my paper, whether it be research, organization, or using a higher level of vocabulary. There are many more things that I could improve about my writing, but I feel like these are the most important to gradually improve over high school.

Strengths as a Writer

I have grown so much as a writer this year because of the large amount of writing assignments we have done. Some of my strengths became obvious during this freshman year. Ideas, voice, and sentence fluency are defiantly the things I feel like I succeeded at this year. My ideas have developed so much over the past year because we were forced to think beyond just writing a summary, and instead of writing the same thing each time. Next, my voice is one of my strengths as a writer. This has been so for as long as I can remember. In lower school I always got higher scores in voice than any of the other categories. Lastly, my sentence fluency has increased just from the beginning of this year to the end. I read one of my blogs from the beginning of the year and one at the end, and my one at the end was so much better in my sentence fluency.

This Year As a Writer

This year as a writer I have learned about myself. I have learned that I procrastinate a lot more than it would take to actually get the assignment done. This is definateltly something I need to continue to work on throughout high school. I have made many improvements from the beginning of the year one of them being the length of material I can write on a small topic. I feel like the amount of writing we have had to do this year greatly helped me improve the density of my writing.

Me as a writer

I am a writer who uses a variety of descriptive adjectives to along with many of the words in an essay. Along with each of these descriptive words are meaningful ideas that correspond with each verb. My imagination is used to a surplus amount. Physically as I am writing I am focused, excieted, and stressed which are totally opposites but somehow I feel all of them. My hands type fast on the keyboard, my mind is racing at all of the thoughts, and my shoulders are tense. I look for the positive things out of each writing situation instead of going straight to the "I hate this". My attitude about writing is growing like a hiker about to reach the top of the mountain. Therefore, always going up. I am a writer who idolizes myself after I finish a paper. My writing has become unique this year and I hope it continues to do so.

Writing center experience

My writing center experience this second semester has been very successful. I went for my research paper, and it really helped me to have reassurance about where my paper stands. Also, having another set of eyes look at paper helped me finish up and revise my paper. The focus of my meeting was organization and correct MLA citations. We talked about other ways I could organize my paper or how to add information into it in order that it could be more coherent. This helped me see from a different perspective what I was doing wrong, but also what I was flourishing at.

I feel like if I would not have gone my paper definitely would not of been as good. Also, she helped me with my MLA citations such as where to put the period after the quote or how to put the page number in the parentheses. Overall, this years writing center experience was great and I would definitely recommend incoming freshman to go to double  check their work.

Blog 1- revision

I chose my Literary Narrative because I wanted to compare and revise how my original writing at the beginning of freshman year compared to the end. I most definitely grew as a writer this year because I could just pick out the words and ideas that were out of place. As in the beginning I thought this essay was wonderful. I focused on organization, sentence fluency, and conventions which were the traits of good writing that I felt this paper was lacking on. Organization wise I totally changed the view and outcome of my narrative to a more meaningful and unified ending. This instantly made my paper better because now it has a clear defined point and purpose which flowing thoughts. As it came to my conventions, I used grammarly and just reading over my essay out loud to myself to fix many grammar problems my essay had with it. This made it sound better and more professional as it was told. Lastly, I chose to focus on sentence fluency by taking away many of the unnecessary similes and metaphors that I used in the beginnning of the year. Many of them just did not make sense. These few changes definitely impacted my paper for the better and just thinking about how these writing traits impacted my paper so greatly will help me succeed next year in English.
