hits and misses

Hits:
1. This years accomplishment blog:
This year I have changed and overcame a lot. I have learned how to manage tons of work every night, but also hang out with friends on the weekend. Specifically, I have learned something in each of my core classes. This is in English, especially I have learned a lot including how to write better, read more, and talk more in English class. My writing has improved so much this year because we constantly had to do blogs, essays, and comments which encouraged all of us to grow as a writer.
Some specific examples of writing techniques I have learned this year are how to cite correctly MLA style, and write meaningful essays. This year has been a year of lots of adjustments and school work, but I know this will definitely help in the long run and I'm glad I had the experience to grow so much this year. Even though it was a lot of new information to take in I feel like I haven't learned as much as I did this year in my 10 years of middle and lower school.
  • I feel like this blog truly sums up my year and the many things I have grown from. It shows my writing while also giving a glimpse into my academic life.

2. Lola Poem:
1 I'm lola,
2 but I don't live in NOLA.
3 I have a brain the size of a pinkie,
4 and I run in just like a train because I can not see a twinkie.
5 Crack, wack, swatck I go,
6 running from wire to wire,
7 wishing I just never got tired.
8 I try to blend into grass,
9 even though I am pure white.
10 Just wait one day i'll grow a bigger brain,
11 but until then i'm just doing my thing.
12 Eating my grass and honey,
13 I'm just a bunny!
14 Furry, friendly, and free,
15 just being me.
Techniques used are simile in line 4, end rhyme in lines 4 and 5, consonance line 14, personification line 3, and onomatopoeia line 5.
  • I feel like this is one of my strongest poems because of all the techniques of poetry I used in it. While doing so, I also got to express my love for my little bunny whom I love.

3. Role model blog:
The person who inspires and encourages me is my grandmother. She is the type of person who is always doing something like going to get a cake for her neighbor or hosting a lunch for her friends. My grandmother is constantly putting others before herself. If I call her at 9pm to help me learn World History she always says, "I would love too". Whenever my mom and I are in a fight I just go to my grandmothers house around the corner. Even when I was 4 i memorized my grandmothers phone number and called her all the time to come over whenever I was getting in trouble. I think the reason we are so close is because we live four houses away from each other.
My grandmother encourages me to always try my best, be kind to everyone, and follow my dreams. This is very inspiring to hear all the time, especially because I have an elder who demonstrates these traits. Even though she is 70 years old, she acts like shes 40. She dresses cute and has a fun personality. Without my grandmother I would not be the person I am today.
  • This blog shows my use of descriptive words while reminiscing on good memories and tying them together. This shows my ability to tie together different ideas and make it one meaningful story.
Misses:

  1. Buddhism Research paper: My research paper was defiantly a miss because of my organization and thought process. I did not do enough research initially, so I was cramming my research. If I would have done more meaningful research before hand then this organization could have improved a lot. Also, I struggled with not sounding like I was a Buddhist. However, this paper taught what to not do for my next research paper.
  2. Literary Analysis: This was one of the first things we wrote this year and I tried really hard. However, since it was the first large paper I struggled with awkward wording, organization, and formatting.
  3. ATDPTI racism blog: In this blog post I did not use my full effort which made my writing not a fluent and fun to read as my other pieces. It was difficult because I did not have another book to compare it to like the second time I did these blogs for Nervous Conditions.
